St. Louis +130 over Carolina

7:00 PM EST. There is a reason this one is on the list, and it has nothing to do with who the better team is. Carolina wraps up a five-game road trip tonight in St. Louis, and this is the 12th straight game the Hurricanes have played in a different city — Washington, Philadelphia, Montreal, Vancouver, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and now St. Louis. The trip started back on October 17 in Winnipeg, and the last stop before this one was Thursday night in Edmonton, where Carolina blew a 4-2 lead to McDavid and Draisaitl and lost 6-5 in a shootout. That is the kind of loss that empties the tank even when you survive it, and now the Hurricanes have to do it all again two nights later, in another building, against a team that just put six past Vegas.

Let's be honest about the other side of this, because Carolina is not some paper tiger. The Hurricanes own the best 5-on-5 profile in the league right now — 59.84% Corsi, 61.33% expected goals, nearly 60% of the high-danger chances — and they sit third in the ratings at 4.50. They are 8-2-2 for a reason, and the market knows it, which is why they're -154 on the road. We're not arguing with any of that. We're arguing with the calendar. A team playing its 12th straight game in a 12th different city, closing out a trip that has already taken it through Western Canada and a shootout heartbreaker, is not the same team those numbers describe. And St. Louis is no pushover waiting at the end of it — the Blues have won three of their last five, two in a row, and just pasted Vegas 6-2 on Thursday night in their own building.

The price is what makes this a play instead of a theory. St. Louis at home, at +128 on the moneyline, against a road-weary favorite at the end of a long trip. Carolina might still win this game — tired teams win games all the time — but if they do, they'll win it tired, and at +128 we're being paid for exactly that possibility.
