Boston +106 over Utah

7:00 PM EST. Utah is 3-1, and apparently that's enough to make the Mammoth road favorites in Boston. Before we start handing out awards for their spectacular opening week, perhaps we should examine exactly who they've beaten.

Chicago, Columbus and New Jersey. That's the entire list.

The Mammoth opened by hammering Chicago 6-0, followed that with a 4-1 victory over Columbus, and then beat New Jersey 5-3 on Tuesday. The one time Utah stepped up against a more formidable opponent, the New York Rangers beat them 4-2.

Even that victory over New Jersey deserves a closer look. The Devils were the better team for significant stretches, but Utah got the superior goaltending and walked away with two points. That's hockey. The better-performing team doesn't always get the result, but the market has a habit of treating every victory as though it were created equally.

Now we're supposed to lay a price with Utah in Boston? No thanks.

Utah is playing its fourth game in six days and its second in three days, while Boston has enjoyed two full days off. The Mammoth have also been traveling, with recent stops in Columbus, New York and New Jersey. That's a demanding opening schedule, particularly for a team whose stock keeps rising with every victory.

Boston's situation couldn't be more different. The Bruins are coming off consecutive losses, their stock has dropped, and they're getting very little respect from the market. But they've had time to rest and prepare, they're playing at home, and they're facing an opponent whose impressive record has been built largely against questionable competition.

This is precisely the type of early-season mispricing that interests us. Utah is being rewarded for its results without enough consideration for the opposition or the circumstances. Boston is being discounted for its recent losses without enough consideration for the favorable spot.

Boston is wrongly priced as the underdog here. The Bruins have home ice, fresher legs and a scheduling advantage against a team whose early success is being overvalued. We'll gladly take the plus money.
