Vegas leads series 2-1

The market is reacting to the 6-2 final score from Game 3, but the score was extremely misleading. Anaheim Ducks controlled puck possession for large stretches of that game and were carrying play early. At one point in the first period, Anaheim was outshooting Vegas Golden Knights 11-3 and somehow found themselves trailing 2-0. Vegas scored on two of its first three shots and had three goals on its first six shots. The Ducks were down 3-0 before half the crowd even found their seats with popcorn in hand.

That’s hockey. The scoreboard and the actual game are often two completely different things.

Anaheim did not suddenly become the worse team because of one ugly result on paper. In fact, if you’ve watched this entire series, the Ducks have probably been the better side overall. They’ve spent more time attacking, generated more sustained pressure, and consistently forced Vegas into uncomfortable stretches. The difference in Game 3 was weak goaltending and a ridiculous finishing rate from Vegas early.

Now the market sees 6-2 and immediately jumps back onto Vegas, which is exactly what happens in hockey betting all the time. Bettors react to scores, not performance. That creates value when a team plays well, loses badly anyway, and then gets discounted the next game.

There’s also no reason Anaheim should suddenly be a home underdog after one misleading final score. If the Ducks had won Game 3 while controlling play the same way, they’d likely be favored here. Instead, because a few early shots went in and the game snowballed, the price swings dramatically the other way.

Vegas still carries the reputation edge, but they have not looked like the superior team consistently in this series. Anaheim’s speed has created problems all series long, and Vegas has spent too much time defending for a supposed road favorite.
