Nashville has 20 points, and nothing about this team says “trustworthy favorite.” They just came home from two strong road efforts… and immediately faceplanted against Winnipeg. Down 3–0, a little cosmetic push, then right back to sleep. That’s not momentum — that’s noise. And now they’re likely missing Michael McCarron, while Jonathan Marchessault is maybe back but nowhere near form. Nashville keeps talking about “building consistency,” but when you’re saying that 20 games in, it means you don’t have any.

Calgary, on the other hand, is showing real signs of life. The early-season disaster version of the Flames is gone. The defensive structure is intact, the goaltending has settled, and they’re starting to look like a club that can drag opponents into low-event grinders and beat them there. Holding Carolina scoreless for 60 minutes in their own barn is no joke — that’s a playoff-calibre defensive effort, even if the offense couldn’t cash.

That’s the hook here: Nashville’s offense is bottom-tier and requires mistakes to survive. Calgary’s recent games have been the opposite — clean, structured, disciplined hockey. The Flames’ 2-1-1 road trip so far hasn’t been lucky; it’s been earned. And when you’re getting even money on the tougher, more structured side against the team with the league’s fewest points?
