San Jose +125 over Seattle

10:07 PM ET. OT included. Sometimes the NHL market shows you its hand early, and this is one of those spots. San Jose went into Seattle earlier this month and beat the brakes off the Kraken 6-1 — not a fluke, not a lucky bounce festival, but a full-value ass-kicking where the Sharks’ best players dictated every shift and Seattle’s goaltending imploded.

The excuse from the Seattle side was Joey Daccord getting hurt. Fair enough. The problem? Philipp Grubauer and Matt Murray haven’t exactly slammed the door either. They’ve been fine, not fix-the-problem fine — and when your offense is scoring one goal or fewer in three of its last five, being “fine” doesn’t cut it.

Seattle’s entire identity right now is, “We’ll defend our way into scoring chances.” Great. Meanwhile the Sharks show up and go, “Cool, we’ll just put the puck in the net instead.”

San Jose got punched in the mouth in Calgary last time out, but that was Askarov standing on his head to prevent a blowout. The coach roasted his team, and these are the exact spots the Sharks have been cashing — after a no-show, they respond. Before that loss, they were on a 7-game heater (6-0-1), and that road win in Seattle was the catalyst.

The Kraken? They’re wobbling. Kaapo Kakko finally scores a goal, then gets hurt. They’re patching together lines. They’re patching together netminders. They’re patching together offense. This is a fragile team being priced like a stable one.

San Jose already walked into this building and beat them by five goals. Now the market wants to pretend Seattle is safe at home?
