Utah +130 over Toronto
7:00 PM ET. OT included. The Maple Leafs were getting booed off the ice Monday night, down 3-0 after 40 minutes, playing lifeless hockey, getting outworked in every area. Then, for ten minutes, they looked like world-beaters, scoring four in the third to steal two points they didn’t deserve. Now the market is treating that miracle period like a sign of a turnaround instead of the outlier it was.
Toronto’s coach Craig Berube called it exactly what it was—terrible for two periods, soft on pucks, disorganized, lazy. You can’t fix that with one hot stretch. The Leafs’ problems are structural and effort-based, and you don’t just flip a switch on command. The third-period outburst was more about Pittsburgh completely collapsing than Toronto suddenly finding its game. When a team admits its “compete level was not there,” that’s not a group you want to spot a big price with.
Enter Utah—a team that plays hard, structured hockey every night. The Mammoth have now won eight of their last ten, including an impressive 2-1 overtime win in Buffalo on Tuesday. They were on the puck, disciplined, and composed in a tight road game, showing exactly the kind of maturity the Leafs continue to lack. Karel Vejmelka was excellent, the defense was airtight, and Clayton Keller once again delivered when it mattered. This is a team that believes, while Toronto’s still searching for whatever it is they think they lost.
The Leafs will get a few bodies back, but energy and accountability don’t come from who’s in the lineup—they come from how a team plays. And right now, the Leafs are still making excuses for why they can’t sustain 60 minutes of effort.
Toronto has won two straight on paper, but neither performance inspires confidence. Meanwhile, Utah has been cashing tickets all month and is catching a tag again simply because they’re playing on no rest. Fatigue won’t be an issue here—they rolled four lines last night and come in buzzing with confidence.
