They’re getting back their captain, Adam Lowry, and they’ve been a freight train both at home and on the road. Meanwhile, Los Angeles can’t buy a win at home. The Kings are winless (0-3-2) at Crypto.com Arena and come into this one off back-to-back losses. Yet, the books made L.A. the favorite. That’s not a mistake; it’s a signal.

When a team that looks this hot is priced as the underdog against one that hasn’t won a home game all year, it’s not about perception—it’s about reality. Winnipeg’s recent run has been boosted by unsustainable shooting luck and timely goaltending from Connor Hellebuyck, who’s been standing on his head for weeks. The Jets have been heavily out-chanced in several of those wins and now embark on a six-game, twelve-day road trip through the Pacific. That first stop, in Los Angeles, is a nasty spot.

The Kings are frustrated, sure, but they’ve been the better team in almost every underlying metric. They rank top-five in expected goals at five-on-five, they control possession, and they generate more quality looks than almost anyone. What’s killing them is conversion—they’re simply not finishing chances. That sort of drought doesn’t last forever. Anze Kopitar’s line is overdue, the power play is due for regression in the right direction, and the Kings’ defensive structure remains solid enough to suffocate a team that relies on rush chances like Winnipeg.

L.A. also just had its seven-game point streak snapped by New Jersey, a game where they played well enough to win but ran into a hot goalie. That tends to create value the next time out, especially when the market leans hard toward the “hot” side.
