St. Louis +190 over Philadelphia

Kyle Leahy (RHP- St. Louis) — 3.25 ERA

Cristopher Sanchez (LHP- Philadelphia) — 2.52 ERA

1:35 PM EST. We are going right back to St. Louis today, and this time we are asking the Cardinals to break  the broom and avoid the sweep. The numbers surrounding this series have been outrageous from our perspective, and we are not about to abandon the Cardinals now simply because Philadelphia continues to get the benefit of the doubt from the market. This is another spot where the price is telling us more than the actual matchup, and we are willing to take advantage.

The battle on the mound is certainly not the mismatch the price suggests. Cristopher Sanchez has been excellent with a 2.52 ERA, but Kyle Leahy is sitting at 3.25 and has done a very good job limiting damage himself. More importantly, Leahy's current strikeout-to-walk profile gives us plenty of confidence that the right-hander can work through the Philadelphia lineup without putting unnecessary traffic on the bases. The difference between these two starters is simply not large enough to justify treating St. Louis like a major underdog.

Sanchez deserves respect, but his numbers do not make Philadelphia an automatic play at this price. The left-hander has been effective at generating strikeouts, yet St. Louis has the type of matchup where making Sanchez work becomes important. Leahy's ability to limit free passes and keep the game under control gives the Cardinals a legitimate chance to stay right there deep into the afternoon. That is all we need from our starter when taking this kind of price.

So here we go once again with St. Louis. We have backed the Cardinals throughout this series and are not changing course now. The starting pitching matchup is far more competitive than the betting number indicates, Leahy's 3.25 ERA gives us a solid foundation, and we are getting paid handsomely to take our shot. Philadelphia has had some lucky drops in this series, but we believe St. Louis has the numbers and the price to finally get one back today.

Arizona is playing to win. Dallas is playing to leave healthy.
