8:10 PM EST. The Toronto Blue Jays have been one of baseball's biggest disappointments this season. Entering the year, many respected analysts viewed them as legitimate AL East contenders and a team capable of making another World Series run. Instead, they've spent much of the season underachieving. The offense has never found consistent rhythm, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has endured a difficult campaign by his standards, and the lineup from top to bottom has produced well below expectations. As a result, public perception has completely shifted, and Toronto has become a team few bettors want to back. That's exactly the type of situation that often creates value.

• The Blue Jays stock dropped even more after they traded Kevin Gausman to the Cubbies among other trades but the core talent on this roster hasn't disappeared overnight. Baseball is a game of streaks, and clubs with this much ability can suddenly catch fire after months of frustration. With expectations now at rock bottom, the pressure has eased, and Toronto has an opportunity to play with a little more freedom. This is a classic buy-low spot on a team whose market value has fallen much further than its actual talent level.

• Houston counters with Hayden Wesneski, who is making just his second major league appearance after returning from Tommy John surgery. He showed understandable rust in his first outing, allowing three runs on seven hits while issuing three walks. Although his rehab work was encouraging, it's reasonable to expect Houston to be cautious with his workload as he continues building arm strength. Toronto hands the ball to rookie Trey Yesavage, whose deceptive delivery and outstanding splitter generated plenty of swings and misses during his impressive debut. Command of the fastball remains the key to his success, but his upside is obvious.

• This isn't a wager against Houston, nor is it a play built around either starting pitcher. It's simply a bet that the betting market has become too negative on a talented Blue Jays team. The public has largely written Toronto off, and that's often when value begins to emerge.
