Kyle Leahy (RHP, St. Louis Cardinals) vs. Peter Lambert (RHP, Houston Astros) is a matchup where the raw ERA numbers don’t give you the full picture, and that’s exactly why we are taking the money. A 0.00 ERA doesn’t hold when the underlying indicators are flashing warning signs—it just means the correction hasn’t happened yet.

At plus money, you’re getting St. Louis with a pitcher whose numbers should normalize in a positive direction, against a pitcher whose spotless ERA is masking underlying risk. The market is leaning toward Houston based on perception, but the analytics suggest this game is far closer than the odds imply. In a matchup where regression is likely to play a major role, backing the side with the more sustainable profile at a plus price is the sharp move. St. Louis on the road is the  play.
