Chicago +120 over Tampa Bay
7:40 PM EST. The White Sox are calling up their top pitching prospect to face the Rays on Tuesday, and this is the type of spot where the market often underestimates the upside of a young arm making his debut. Noah Schultz (LHP – CHW) battled patellar tendinitis last year, which impacted his velocity and control, but he appears fully healthy now, averaging 96 mph on his sinker and touching as high as 99 mph. His sinker is considered a plus pitch, and he pairs it with a double-plus slider, giving him a legitimate swing-and-miss one-two punch. He also features a high-80s changeup that projects as above average, along with a cutter, four-seam fastball, and occasional curveball.
The early returns this season have been dominant. Schultz has allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in 14 innings at Triple-A Charlotte while striking out 19, and if his command holds, he has the arsenal to quickly establish himself as a top-of-the-rotation type. This is not just a prospect — this is a premium arm with frontline potential getting plus money.
On the other side, Shane McClanahan (LHP – TB) is still working his way back after a lengthy and complicated recovery path. A second Tommy John surgery in 2023 was followed by triceps inflammation and then a forearm nerve procedure last August. In total, he logged just 3.1 innings during rehab appearances and has topped out around 94 mph, which is a noticeable step down from his peak form. At age 28, the upside is still there, but this is clearly a high-risk, high-variance situation, and Tampa Bay is asking him to rediscover command and stamina against live competition.
This matchup sets up as a classic upside vs uncertainty scenario. The betting market will naturally lean toward the established name, but the sharper angle is backing the healthier, ascending arm at a plus price. Debut nerves are always a factor, but the stuff is real, the confidence is high, and the number offers value.
