TROY -17½ -110 over West Georgia

Trojan Arena – Troy, AL

7:00 PM ET. At first glance, West Georgia catching this many points looks tempting—after all, the Wolves enter with a sparkling 5–1 mark against the number and have built a reputation as a team that refuses to go away quietly. But peel back the layers and the façade becomes obvious. Their ATS résumé is built almost entirely on beating—or surviving—soft competition and inflated lines.

Look at the covers that make up this glowing profile: a backdoor slip inside a massive number at UCLA as a 30.5-point dog; another “just enough” effort at Georgia Tech to get them over the line with a 16-point loss despite taking back 18 at the tip; and wins over Citadel, Tennessee Tech, and USC Upstate. Against the Bulldogs, UWG won by eight laying 6.5 points at tip-off and they won by a basket as a 3.5-point pooch at Tech.

Is their surface level ATS record solid? Sure. Impressive when you look at the finer points? Not exactly. West Georgia has also benefited immensely from bounces and timing, something reflected in their #6 ranking in KenPom’s Luck metric. Their record and ATS success simply are not sustainable indicators of strength.

Troy, meanwhile, is the definition of volatile—but also vastly more capable. The Trojans own high-end wins over San Diego State, Kent State, and Furman. They nearly shocked USC in Los Angeles. Yes, they’ve also stumbled—Northridge beat them and they won by just 10 against Saint Francis PA who they were favored by 21 against. But those lows can’t erase the reality that Troy has spent the early season navigating real opponents. Their strength of schedule is 68th nationally, nearly 110 spots tougher than West Georgia’s friendlier slate.

Put these ingredients together, and the line suddenly makes perfect sense. Troy has far more ceiling, far more physicality, and far more experience dealing with legitimate Division I depth and tempo. West Georgia is stepping up significantly in class, and the metrics suggest they’ve been overperforming relative to their true level. The Wolves’ ATS record will draw eyes, but the matchup and the market number both point the other way. If Troy shows anything close to the form that toppled San Diego State, this one has the potential to get out of hand early. The points may look steep, but they’re actually cheap. Troy by margin.
