Louisville -8½ over Cincinnati (Neutral Site Game)
Heritage Bank Center – Cincinnati, OH
6:30 PM ET. What makes this matchup so intriguing is that it’s technically a neutral site game even though it’s being played in Cincinnati’s own backyard. The Ohio Valley Rivalry is on full display — Louisville versus Cincinnati — and the Bearcats walk in with the hype. They’re undefeated, they’ve won five of their last eight overall, and they’ve covered seven of their last nine meetings. Their stock is inflated in this spot, and because they’re catching a healthy number here, they’ve become the trendy underdog. Touts will gladly point to recent covers in this exact range twice over the aforementioned run to justify the dog play.
However, Louisville is the side that actually deserves more respect. The Cardinals have put on absolute clinics in their four wins, clearing the 100-point mark in three of them while pairing that with defensive dominance. In their rivalry tilt with Kentucky, Louisville won by eight and covered as a six-point favorite, even with the market pushing heavily toward the Wildcats. And now that Kentucky just got hammered by Michigan State, everyone is backtracking and dismissing Louisville’s win over UK as a misnomer. It wasn’t. The Spartans are scary good and so is The Ville.
This is the exact type of spot where the market misreads the setup and reaches for the wrong side because Cincinnati looks tempting due to a slew of recent covers against UL, and the friendly underdog price. But Louisville has been the sharper, more complete team on both ends of the floor, and nothing about Cincinnati’s profile warrants any kind of respect against an opponent with Louisville’s form. When this one is over, the Cards will get the attention they should’ve had from the start. Cardinals roll.
