Here’s the thing: they are not playing in Brooklyn and they are being asked to be road chalk. In essence, they are supposed to fly across the country and dictate tempo against a team that wants to grind possessions into dust. That is not an ideal spot for the Sharkies.

Now let’s talk about metrics. LIU cannot match Air Force’s physicality. The Force owns a clear advantage on the defensive glass. Translation: if LIU isn’t shooting lights out, second chances will be extremely limited. Then throw in this nugget — the Sharks commit 19 turnovers per game, ranking 336th nationally. Tempo teams thrive when they can create extra opportunities and hang onto the basketball. When they cannot? They are set up for a hard fall. Add in a hostile environment and they can get behind the eight ball fast.

Sure, LIU went into The Jungle and knocked off IUPUI in their last outing, but they were also a 4.5-point underdog in a matchup against a team with a similar profile to them. Long Island was simply able to outscore the Jaguars. The Air Force presents a very different challenge. The Sharks sit 300th or worse in three-point attempts, overall field goal attempts, and shots made in those same categories. Air Force, with its rugged approach, will get plenty of looks because LIU simply cannot limit volume.
