New Orleans +17½ vs over Oklahoma City

Smoothie King Arena – New Orleans, LA

8:00 PM ET. We know this like being asked to buy the bottom of the barrel as opposed to sipping on the cream of the crop, but that’s the point. Oklahoma City is the defending NBA champion, sitting atop the league with a single loss, steamrolling teams with continuity, confidence, and arguably the best player in the Association: SGA. New Orleans, meanwhile, is anchored to the bottom of the Western Conference with just two wins, routinely labeled as non-competitive and dismissed before tip-off. Those two storylines collide and produce a spread this absurd - a figure that doesn’t reflect basketball as much as it reflects perception.

But perception isn’t what covers numbers this large. When a favorite is asked to win by nearly twenty points, the margin for error vanishes. The Thunder not only need to control the game, they need to smother it. They must maintain intensity in all four quarters, avoid scoring droughts, rotate cleanly, and get consistent production from both starters and bench. Even elite teams struggle to play mistake-free basketball for 48 minutes. And that’s even if OKC throttles New Orleans early and brings in the supporting cast. That’s where the trap lies.

The market is pricing the Pelicans as if they are incapable of hanging around for even short stretches, but this is still a professional team with NBA athletes. They don’t need to outplay OKC. They don’t need to win a quarter convincingly. They simply need to avoid a complete collapse. That’s all we need to be in position here. With a spread this inflated, New Orleans can be thoroughly outplayed and still deliver a comfortable cover. A single competitive quarter, a short-lived run, or even a bench unit punching above its weight is enough to disrupt Oklahoma City’s ability to cross the required threshold. In a game priced for near-perfection, we’ll take the imperfect side with the enormous cushion.

Take advantage of BET365's early MLB payout offer!

For straight bets, if the team you back to win goes 5 runs ahead at any stage during the game, BET365 will pay out your bet in full regardless of whether the opposition comes back to win the game.

For parlays and Same Game Parlays, if a team you have backed goes 5 runs ahead, this selection will be marked as won within My Bets, with the remaining selections left to run.

Here is a wager we were paid out early on that would eventually lose.
